With both sites now having AHK 1.1 as the official download, I don't think that a separate forum is needed for AHK 1.0 anymore. I think that can be considered an obsolete product now...

Thanks Maniac.  I didn't realize the old forum had made the switch.  Having said that, I'd still really love to prevent the confusion between AHK_L and AHK 2.0.  Now seems to be the time to plan this out to avoid the issues we had in the past

Yes. AHK v1.0 is deprecated.
A clear separation between v1.1 and v2.0 will most definetly come into consideration.
Why ahkscript.org? - autohotkey.com is outdated

I absolutely agree we need a separate workspace for V2

I partly disagree - we shouldn't manifest separation between V1.1 and V2.0 too hard. It should be avoided that we end up in a situation as with Python2/Python3 or (expected) Perl5/Perl6. We should take care that AHK 2.0 is presented as evolution of 1.1 - and not as alternative.

I'm not quite sure how to implement this - as V2 has some breaking changes and deserves a separate workspace for this ...

One forum only, not two on two seperate sites. Something like this (has been posted a number of times by various members of ther years)

New/current forum main categories after merging two sites - current situation, there is already room for v2 there which is fine:

- AutoHotkey Foundation
- AutoHotkey
- General
- Archive [current AutoHotkey.com, locked, phpbb so it is searchable]
- Other languages

Once v2 is ready:

- AutoHotkey Foundation
- AutoHotkey v2 (ask for help, scripts, announcements etc)
- General
- AutoHotkey v1 (legacy, but only ask for help/scripts are open - rest is locked)
- Archive [current AutoHotkey.com, locked, phpbb so it is searchable]
- Other languages

You can reserve ahkscript.org for the foundation info and as a backup domain/last resort.

Thank you all for your feedback. This conversation has been fruitful both autohotkey.com and on the ahkscript.org. One thing seems clear between the 2 forum softwares the community prefer PHPBB3 as implemented on ahkscript.org
It also seems clear that most would prefer to archive the current autohotkey.com forum IP Boards ( locked but searchable) and move the ahkscript.org forum PHPBB3 to autohotkey.com.

It will take some time to implement without errors and we have some upcoming server maintanance ( OS Upgrade ) on autohotkey.com first.

The archival process will not be an immediate lockdown. There are existing threads that need to be completed.
  • The first step will be to move the forum software from ahkscript.org to autohotkey.com
  • A redirect from the ahkscript.org forum url will be applied
  • I will generate a list of users that are not registered in that forum and send a notification that a new sign up may be required ( I will attempt a conversion and import ) to smooth the transition.
  • Two weeks later I will disable new topics within IP Boards. Replies to existing topics will remain possible for another month after that before final lockdown.
Over the coming weeks and days I will post additional detail on each step. Every possible step to make changes transparently and smoothly to the community will be made
Never lose.
WIN or LEARN.

Just my $0.02. I don't think this thread got enough exposure. The only place you can see it is by looking in Announcements (and honestly, how often are people really going to look there?). Why wasn't this flagged as an Announcement post that appears at the top of all forums/sub-forums?

I think you're going to find some unexpected kick-back on your hands if you don't take some extra steps to make sure the word gets out about this.

I use this site pretty exclusively due to the layout. The phpBB themes on ahkscript.org are pretty harsh on my eyes. If we could get some better (more) themes on it, I'd vote on that.

How long will this process take before its all done? 1 month? 3 month? 1 year?
