Is any type of spam block list being used? There are a number of them out that might help.
Is there anything that can be done about the notifications? And while I appreciate the deletion of the posts the notifications remain.

Whew! just got rid of a ton of spam there!
Currently this forum is using StopForumSpam, If I take a look at the logs, It blocks a lot... some just still slip through the cracks....
Apparently, that's not working so well. I understand it's tough. There are other block lists like https://www.iblocklist.com/lists.php, http://www.malwaredomainlist.com/, etc.... Maybe configure to add another block list. I-Blocklist has block lists for proxies and bogon IP ranges that various spammers like to use, in addition to a spammer list.
Also, a script or admin approval to start posting may help. Though in my opinion, I think a key part is allowing users to block/ignore topics and not just posts, in their ignore preferences. When you ignore a person, any topics they have or will create should be ignored too. This gives users power. If there are no admin around, they can simply add the spammer to their ignore list and the spam topics disappear that way.
It will be fun to actually implement it together with tank, and put it up on github under /ahkscript. This way it will be a lot easier to maintain and adapt.
is there anything minor you can enable, like captchas? they help a bit, but not perfect. use that for a week or so, and maybe anything else not so... hard. if all those fail, have account activation.
rawr. be very afraid
. Populate the AutoHotkey city. Pointless but somewhat fun. .
In the past 12 hours we got close to 20 pages of spam! Because they know that nobody in their right mind will ever call one of the phone numbers, this is just evil....
Marine Corps Gen. Joseph Dunford told senators at his Joint Chiefs of Staff confirmation hearing : “If you want to talk about a nation that could pose an existential threat to the United States, I'd have to point to Russia. And if you look at their behavior, it's nothing short of alarming.”
