would simply create two new sections in this Forum (labeled AHK v2 Functions / Help).

There was a multi-page argument about this when AHK_L was becoming popular. Lets try to not do that here

The most important sections are Scripts & Functions and Ask for Help. Ask for help because it's used to look up problems that already have been solved. Some say no one searchs before posting, well no one posts to say they searched and found a solution to their problem... [/off topic]

But when people make the switch there has to be a way to distinguish between code that will work for them and code that is incompatible. If it's your first time on the site, you just downloaded AutoHotkey (v2), and your trying to piece together your first script, you might search the forums. When you find some code that looks like it might work and you try to run it, you get an error. The point being, there has to be a way to tell what is new code and what is old code, keeping in mind that after v2 comes out people will still be posting code for basic and ahk_L.

I actually favor a new blank forum for version 2. It creates a needed different help and support avenue and separates hopefully code confusion

I vote for old posts to be labeled as V1, and at some point new posts be labeled as V2, unless manually changed. During that time it might even be good to have different subforums that can be merged later on when the acceptance of V2 has increased.

just have separate sections for v1 and v2. i dont think you can have both v1 and v2 postings under one Ask For Help section, too confusing

Well that was the basis for having 2 forums. You don't really want merged data on the 'Ask for Help' or 'Scripts & Functions' sub-forum. I could add in two new sub-forums but it may make the current forum too cluttered.

currently we have:

Autohotkey:
  Ask for help
  Scripts & functions
  Bug reports
  Wish List
  Announcements

General:
  Utilities & resources
  General chat

maybe it should be like this:

Autohotkey - v2:
  Ask for help
  Scripts & functions
  Bug reports
  Wish List
  Announcements

Autohotkey - v1:
  Ask for help
  Scripts & functions

General:
  Utilities & resources
  General chat

or

Autohotkey:
  Ask for help - v2
  Scripts & functions - v2
  Ask for help - v1
  Scripts & functions - v1
  Bug reports
  Wish List
  Announcements

General:
  Utilities & resources
  General chat

If the sub forums did change, I'd say the first option looks the best. It shows where active development is.

Any luck MacroMan?

I'd say add a subforum in the Autohotkey section, name it "Legacy" or "Archive" (I prefer the former, makes it sound less-dead and more-important) and have one or two subforums there-in. So it'd be "Legacy - Ask for Help", and "Legacy - Scripts & Functions". Also a sticky in the usual forums explaining the change and how to do stuff. For example the supported version.

Well actually the documentation for v2 will be separate from the current like so:

autohotkey.com/docs ;Current docs
autohotkey.com/v2/docs ;v2 docs (doesn't exist yet)

So a new forum like so would make sense:

autohotkey.com/forum
autohotkey.com/v2/forum

But I'm still undecided about which direction we're going to take.

In newer versions of phpBB you can add direct links to the forum lists. So in effect you could have both. Like so:

autohotkey.com/v2/forum with
AutoHotkey - v2:
  Ask for help
  Scripts & functions
  Bug reports
  Wish List
  Announcements

AutoHotkey - v1: ;Link to autohotkey.com/forum
Ask for help ;Link to autohotkey.com/forum Ask for help section
Scripts & functions ;Link to autohotkey.com/forum Scripts & functions section

General:
  Utilities & resources
  General chat

And autohotkey.com/forum with
;Big bold announcement in header of every page pointing to autohotkey.com/v2/forum Also including announcement post shown in all forums for those who don't use styles.
AutoHotkey - v1:
  Ask for help
  Scripts & functions
  Bug reports ; Archived
  Wish List ; Archived
Announcements ; Archived with first post announcing change of forum structure.
