I'm using the shareware file manager Total Commander (http://www.ghisler.com/), a two window Norton Commander clone (highly recommendable, by the way). It is able to show file contents in one of the windows. With (normally free) plug ins you can take quick looks at pictures, text-files, Microsoft Office files, PDFs an so on

Yesterday I found a useful free plug-in, Synplus (http://www.totalcmd....ng/synplus.html). That's an editor that allows to view and edit highlighted sourcecode in the preview window. It comes in a stand alone version too. It can be startet from Total Commander using the F3-key.

I wrote a quick and dirty Syntax highlighting file:
http://www.autohotke... ... x_File.zip
To install it copy the file Autohotkey.hgl into the directory "Highlighters". Add the line AHK=Autohotkey.hgl to the [EXTENSIONS] section of HGLs.ini

If you never used Total Commander before: Consult the help file on how to install plug-ins. It's rather easy.

Thats how it looks:

Does anybody know how I can add an image to a post? Using the Picture-Tag doesn't work.

I think it didn't work merely because the link inside the tags was wrong. I've updated the top post with the corrected URLs provided by Serenity and another visitor.

Yah, we actively promote AutoHotkey on the Total Commander forum!
Just search on the forum for AutoHotkey :-)
Is there another word for synonym?

I'd love to use this highlighter, but I followed the instructions and all I got was an error:
"unknown file format" when using "highlights.exe" in the highlighter folder.

Maybe the plugin needs to be updated?

Thanks!

I found Synplus when looking for an editor two years ago. I must admit, I never used it (too slow on my old computer). I settled with Notepad++. I never updated the syntax file. But it was easy as far as I remembember, using the command lists provided with AHK (Autohotkey\Extras\Editors\Syntax\).

I tried the newest version of Synplus, 2-7-3. It comes without the HGLs.ini-File. I copied the autohotkey.hgl-file into the Highlighters directory. Then I ran the run_hlsett.bat and got a GUI which made it possible to include Autohotkey and exclude other highlighters- which made synplus much faster too. It works fine with Total Commander 7.02a- and I think I will keep it this time :)

Thanks for reminding me of Synplus

I'd love to use:
SynTree - Tree-like code snippets organizer

to collect bits of ahk, and have them done with syntax highlighting.

Probably the syntax highlighting will not happen anytime soon.

another option may be to create a project in PSpad and just add one file per 'code bit'. the problem is that you cannot keep then in a tree nor add icons like in SynTree.

Do you use any program to keep code bits?

Thanks

by the way here's a fantastic program that I'm using to collect code snippets:

total text container
http://sourceforge.n...ects/totaltext/

It does many other things (calendars, todos, contacts, spreadsheets)...

But why I think it'd be useful for ahk people is because it does like syntree but using synPlus, not syn. That way, one could use the syntax file on this thread.

I tried and didn't get it to work.
Posted in their forum.

If anybody succeeds, please post the solution here.

Thanks

Ok, I'm trying to fix the synplus syntax file on my own. I noticed that all other syntax files use command<\W> instead of .

I did a global replace and the syntax file still doesn't work. It's a mystery to me...
