Just to emphasize, that notification was sent 3 weeks ago.
That user has been banned that same day, so the link not working is expected. The 'p' ID refers to the specific post, not the thread, so there's nothing strange going on there. :P

Got one as well.

This is the thread where Oops's post doesn't exist.
The actual topic link id is 247137, which is invalid (might might be okay in a year or two :P )
https://autohotkey.com/boards/viewtopic ... 37#p247137
Haven't been logged in when or since the thread was posted (until today).
Edit: @Nextron: Re below: Yes , sorry, it was a "p" not a "t", if the spammer intended a "t" the thread id for that number still doesn't exist, (yet).

Yeah, I don't know whats happened to tank. Perhaps, he is away on something else?

As far as Im aware tank is the only one with enough information to truly confirm what i said or to investigate on the matter.
tank hasn't been online since a week or 2 and hasn't been online after the spam started.
As far as Im aware we have a monthly e-Mail quota - thats my best guess other than that I cannot imagine why this would happen.

I am not sure, but possibly temporarily due the captcha being broken causing mass spam...
Since I am the only one complaining about this, so I presume I'm the only one not receiving email notifications from topics I am subscribed to!

Did you investigated upon this or you are just presuming it is "possibly temporarily due the captcha being broken causing mass spam..."?

Is the email notifications disabled? I am not receiving email notifications from topics that I am subscribed to!

I just noticed the closing text of the e-mail notification is outdated.

"Sleeper" accounts... :/

Re: Getting spammed by AutoHotkey

Many spam accounts are left idle for a few weeks before they're used. This account was created just before the registration was locked and actually had some posts to blend in (E.g: Thanks, me too). However the malicious posts just had quote tags but no other kind of content to promote, so its goal just seems to harass. Luckily it got banned while it was posting, before it finished more.

New users are unable to join the board so it is unlikely that they are still creating posts.
It is possible that the mails are getting to you at a slower pace because our e-Mail system is completely unable to deal with the amount of mail it is supposed to send.
user ufs has been banned since quite a while so I doubt he has send you any new mails.
Well, I got quoted again just now, so he must be hacking existing accounts. I get the email, but the posts get deleted pretty fast, thanks. I'm gonna turn off the quote notification.

I would call it spam because I would assume that they were all from the same person, even though the names were different. But I could not see the spammer or his bot, so I don't know if there was more than one culprit.

Spammers ..., I really hate them! I logged in today and found a fake notification from "Oops"!

Thanks God this forum has great administrators, moderators and spam officers! Thanks!

Okay, I might have looked more closely.

the names changed after so many from one userid.

received about a dozen that said "trulas" quoted me.

thken "frin" began being the name. maybe 15 or 20

then , at 22:58 thursday, it changed to "trups". just a couple from trups

then it was "lipar"

then it became "oops". oops and lipar were intermingled

then it became "Ufs":

so, let me guess: Spam users were created, they sent me stuff and they were deleted. Another came along, etc. etc.?

It APPEARS turning off the setting to receive emails when someone quotes me has stopped the flow.

probably because you WERE quoted, but one of the moderators already deleted the spam post, so therefore the post no longer exists and you can't view it

my email notifications must be turned off, because i never receive any emails. maybe for PMs, i'm not sure.

i only got one notification on the web forums when i logged in a few days ago, from user "Oops" who claimed to have quoted me. similarly, the post doesn't exist anymore.

@joefiesta could you share all the names of people that apparently did that?

Re: Getting spammed by AutoHotkey

Post by joefiesta » 02 Nov 2018, 08:45

@Nextron

You missed my point. Yes, I am not being flooded. And, yes, the emails are all from different people. so, I'm not being spammed.

But, each email tells my someone has quoted me. They have not. And each email contains a link supposedly pointly to the quoted post. But, the link is dead.

I have the choice to receive emails when someone quotes me selected. I don't know if that is the default. I am going to turn it off and see what happens.

Re: Getting spammed by AutoHotkey

Ufs caused the mail flood but was banned 19 hours ago, so it should not trigger new notifications. That's why it's relevant to know when you received the last e-mail (in bulk), when it was actually sent and the link it includes.

Of course it is still possible you receive notification e-mails, but it shouldn't be mass amounts by a single user.

Re: Getting spammed by AutoHotkey

Post by joefiesta » 01 Nov 2018, 17:45

Maybe it's not really spam. I receive an email such as the following:

[[indent=]quoteHello joefiesta,

You are receiving this notification because "Ufs" quoted you in the topic
"CapsLock to Ctrl while pressed" at "AutoHotkey Community". You can use the
following link to view the reply made.

If you want to view the quoted post, click the following link:
viewtopic.php?p=247180#p247180

If you want to view the topic, click the following link:
viewtopic.php?f=76&t=58719

][/quote][/indent]

When i view the first link ("to view the quoted post"), I am directed to an Informational bulletin board message that says: The requested topic does not exist.

The 2nd link ("to view the topic") DOES work fine.

I was assuming this is spam. Now I think something's broken. I THINK I am signed up to receive notification about all new posts to a few forums.

(The preview is a mess. tried to make it more readable. But, not an expert at indenting and quoting here.)
