1.1.27.06 being blocked by Microsoft Security Essentials

16 Jan 2018, 10:10

Currently on Windows 7 machines, Microsoft Security Essentials blocks the download of the installer. I was able to right click and select 'save link as', but it still gets blocked from running. I've never had this issue with previous versions.

Yes this is a false positive.
You have to report this to Microsoft so that they can update they virus definitions so that this does not happen anymore.

Same here on W7 Pro with MSE:
ahk 1.1.27.06 virus.gif
browser doesn't matter, happens with Chrome, Firefox, Opera
ahk 1.1.27.06 virus.gif (2.66 KiB) Viewed 4446 times
Anyone know the URL to report this false positive to Microsoft? Regards. Joe

Update: Also happening on W10 Pro with Defender:

ahk 1.1.27.06 virus w10.gif
ahk 1.1.27.06 virus w10.gif (3.01 KiB) Viewed 4431 times

Well we can't do anything about it - this is a bug in Windows Defender they need to update their virus definitions.
You can report at:

Problem is, can't report it there, because when you go through the submission process (which I did yesterday), it asks you to upload the file. Can't do that, because I can't download it! :(

You can suspend real-time protection to download and submit the file, I have submitted a report: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/wdsi/su ... 05911a68fb

Turn off Defender while downloading the file, and then add a folder exception so Defender doesn't scan it again.

1. Press the Windows Security Centre shield in task bar (or open via start button)
2. In Security Centre settings, press the shield button to open Virus and Threat Protection
3. Click Virus and Threat Protection Settings
4. Turn off Real Time Protection
5. Download file to location where you will run it from (for me it's Downloads/AHK)
6. After file is downloaded, go back to Virus and Protction Settings and click Add or Remove Exclusions
7. In Windows 10 (latest version, might be different on older versions), click the grey + Add an Exclusion button and select Folder
8. Select the folder where you downloaded the file
9. From here you can install Auto HotKey, upload the file to Microsoft etc
10. Once it's installed, go back to Virus and Threat Protection Settings and turn Real time protection back on

Hope that helps!

The strange thing is that Virustotal says that 'Microsoft' has no problems with the file, while Defender on Win10 blocks it - and both are said to have virus definitions of today. But that is no AHK problem, I guess.
Btw, Virustotal shows 65 ok, 2 bad apples. That is typically a false positive.
