Fails with volume keys on Apple keyboard

Tried to remap the volume keys to volume keys using this script:

Result: Have to press two keys, e.g. hold F10, then press F11 or F12. Or hold F11, then press F10 or F12. Or hold any other key, then press the volume keys.

The keys itself do not react at all, only with an additional key (not Shift or similar, this does not work).
