Help file: "StdoutToVar"

27 Jul 2015, 10:27

The help-file mention twice Seans "StdoutToVar" at http://www.autohotkey.com/board/topic/1 ... douttovar/

The problem is:
- the download-link in first posting is broken
- this was already mentioned in the forum nearly three years ago
- in the meantime there are other discussions, other solutions (http://www.autohotkey.com/board/topic/9 ... douttovar/)

Wouldn't it a good idea to modify the help?

EDIT:
Also "CMDRet" links from one post to another and ends in a "not found ZIP - 404":

Topic moved from v2 Dev to Bug Reports. This has nothing to do with v2.

I'll update the FAQ, but the other mention is in a paragraph about "Sean's Scripts", so I'm not inclined to change it.

Most of the scripts on that page are quite old and may or may not work. Feel free to test/review them. If I was forced to do something about the Script Showcase, I would be very likely to just delete it from the documentation and provide a link to the forum.

Found this topic going through the script showcase and looking at various scripts, and then looking for stdoutToVar (as I have messed with that previously and wanted to see other solutions), and then wound up here.

I wanted to comment that I think the Script Showcase is useful to keep. It's a bit messy and old and maybe not the most polished thing to include in a set of documentation, but I find new and interesting AutoHotkey code all the time-- some on the forum, some on the old forum/archive, some on random github sites (usually from various forum users), some in the help files and documentation, etc. This random code is not just useful to incorporate as-needed, but sometimes it is paradigm shifting to start finding out all these things you can do, all of these little utilities that other people have put together that do things you never even would have imagined doing in a particular way.

I suppose all of the links in the Script Showcase could get shoved on a forum post. In fact one of the links in the Script Showcase is exactly that, a bunch of other links on a forum post. I would have never found many of the utilities referenced however without the initial jumping off point in the documentation.

Danke! :o
TBH, I don't understand why its path is saying this:
https://github.com/camerb/AHKs/blob/mas ... cmdret.dll
... but it's not listed if I look for it directly up there ...
https://github.com/camerb/AHKs/blob/master/thirdParty

You're welcome!

It is actually listed: it's written as "cmdret.dll" - and the corresponding "CMDRet.ahk" has a different Capitalization and is therefore sorted at another list position ...
