Forum theme/board style

Are the 3 options for board styles the only ones available? What I'd really like is a white on black version of Simplicity. Maybe I'm too picky. Just thought I'd find out what is possible and what is not!

get a browser addon like stylish to change the style (colors) of phpbb boards.
creating a new theme is a lot of work, and any changes made on one theme will need to always be maintained across all themes (a PITA). using anything other than the default might result in a buggy experience since we don't maintain all 3.
