Thanks for starting this thread. Just looking around, the country seems much emptier today. A friend told me she once saw Stephen Hawking travelling around the university.

I remember watching this at the time.

I later found out about this also.

I'm not sure how successful attempts to discover or teach the mysteries of the universe always are, in research or in books, particularly in physics, but the greatest of thanks to all those who do attempt it.

I've got to admit that (like, I guess, the majority of people out there) I "knew" Stephen Hawking from that biopic The Theory of Everything :silent:
And yes, there must be a God bc of Stephen's timing - just right, so no one on this planet has wasted any time with focusing on a wall-grabbing pu..y.

PS. Yesterday I had that strange idea if it would have made more sense to push S.H. within a "snow white'-coffin to outer space instead of a used car ... :salute: :salute: :salute:

- This is exactly the sort of bland uninformative obituary I've come to expect from mainstream TV outlets. 'Hawking was a scientist who was easily identifiable to the general public. No-one understood his work, and we never bothered to cover it.' The lacklustre spirit of the summary is the worst part, including revelling in the fact that few people understood his work, and that few who bought his book, read it. I could have written it word-for-word, and conveyed its tiresome humourless 'humour'.

- There have been some documentaries starring or featuring Hawking, but if there's a good one focused on the proper science, I would like to see it.
- The Horizon series of documentaries has had some scientific Hawking content I believe, although I don't know if there's a stand-out episode.

- I did watch The Theory of Everything, and remember the power of the loss-of-physical-control scenes.
- Someone recommended to me to read A Brief History of Time, and it's a fair book in the first half, although it unravels after that. I doubt many readers will get much out of it, this is neither Hawking's fault, nor the reader's, although I applaud the effort, and it may be a key part of the move to books promoting the popularisation of science and mathematics, of which there have been many great books including A Short History of Nearly Everything and Anne Rooney's 'Story of' books.
- The MC Hawking albums were very amusing, although be aware, swear-laden.

- Btw re. timing, the amazing coincidence is that the Paralympics should be underway at the same time, two great examples of success, in sport and academia, despite setbacks.
