YES it is. Because it's kind of a symbol of the many skills and knowledges that are getting lost in our digital information age

No it's a sign that the world has changed.
That always happens it's nothing unnormal.

Re: « What's on your mind? »
okay i can not understand how it can be that one can not read a clock. i can read analogues better. I used to be able to do mental arithmetic and even studied mathematics at university (fortunately I did not have much mental arithmetic). Since I occasionally program since the 13th year of age, I almost never count my head (addition, multiplication, etc.). In the meantime I can only guess results. I have a feeling for it, but in calculation all children are better than me. but it is not a problem. I never need it. and that's why I can not. use it or loose it.nnnik wrote:No it's a sign that the world has changed.

Re: « What's on your mind? »
There are people on this planet that have not seen an analogue clock in their entire life.
Why would they need to learn to read it? I really don't understand why this is anything bad.

Re: « What's on your mind? »
I think you are referring to this or a similar story.
I'm sorry, but it's way too early to remove this requirement IMHO. There are still too many references to the analog clock that kids would miss if they don't know how to read it. Hey, a raging bull at your 4. Watch out! In fact, I think that this requirement should never go away. How many references in literature would be missed because we've stopped teaching the kids? How many clocks around the world would go misunderstood because of this thinking?
Them be my thoughts.

The thing is that language will just change - media of the past will become history and people won't be able to understand it anymore.
I think what makes this time a little unique is that almost everything changed when digital computers were introduced.

Re: « What's on your mind? »
How literal is this though ? Is it literally, she can't read one at ALL, or more along the lines of it takes her a while (presumably too long) to work out what time an analogue clock is displaying, but can decipher the time eventually.tank wrote:My daughter 16 in the US cant read a clock
My thoughts are it shouldn't stop being taught (not that the article said it would completely stop being taught). Also, I must admit I find it strange that the article states it's a school replacing analogue clocks. I mean a school should be about teaching & reinforcing what is taught to kids so they can do things they don't know how to do. - I also suspect the clock is the scapegoat for many of the kids simply running out of time to finish the exam too, but that's speculation on my part.

While true, an analog clock and references to them are still commonplace. This is lazy education nothing less and therefore badnnnik wrote:No it's a sign that the world has changed.

That's not the right reason to do it. This is a reason to teach clock readinggarry wrote: in UK , schools are removing analogue clocks from examination halls because teenagers are unable to tell the time , a head teachers’ union has said ...

Re: « What's on your mind? »
Funny video. But it also reminds me of all of the nuances of the analog clock. 5, 10, 20... 3 hands. Clockwise. Etc. You don't need to know everything in order to read a clock but it's stuff that everyone should know for the 20 to 100 years. A concise 10 minute video on YouTube should do it.

Actually, putting your hands at 3 and 9 o'clock will reduce your chances of injury when it comes to the airbag being deployed, it also helps with steering and concentration (As far as I've been using the technique.derz00 wrote:driver instructor:
