How about putting a "Get started" Link below.
I mean the way the website is presented shows that you assume that the user knows what Autohotkey is.
However that might not be the case and he is at a loss as what he should click.
A get started link might fix that.

I'd prefer what joedf did over Blackholyman's website cuz it's simple which AutoHotkey should be. Not saying that I don't like Blackholyman's website, it looks great. :)

I personally think that the focus is done better on Blackholymans site making it easier to find what you are looking for.
(Although I think that the upper "What is it" needs more focus, or should be placed somewhere else)
However you can find additional Info just by Scrolling a bit.
joedfs is mostly focusing on the Search Field - Why?

@nnnik actually, I'm not focusing on search particularly. I just looked at the current ahkscript homepage, and simply kept the basic links, the search and the logo (Google doodle placing). It is true that some few things could be added, but I wanted it to be minimalistic and straight forward. :? Blackholyman's is really nice, I didnt do anything like that because I didn't want to have something too fancy, I was thinking of something sort of like lua's homepage: http://lua.org ?

Minor suggestion to Blackholyman's or joedf's (whichever is chosen):
It would be nice to include a tabbed or code sample slideshow featuring AutoHotkey's features:
  • Hotkeys
  • Hotstrings (can be combined w/ slide 1)
  • Text/String/File manipulation
  • Arrays/Associative arrays
  • Classes (can be combined w/ slide 4)
  • COM Automation
  • FFI/DllCall()
In that way beginners can see how easy it is to get a grasp of the language while at the same time those w/ programming experience will see familiar concepts. It is also a way of subtly suggesting preferred syntax usage like := instead of =, etc. through the sample code snippets. And also informing visitors that AutoHotkey is not just a hotkey tool but a powerful scripting language.

Good idea, and I think I'll add a language switcher, I'm not sure where to put the other links.... Hmmm I want to avoid the single page design, I don't want it to feel too bloated :p

i like blackholyman's layout better, but prefer the clean white keyboard image and the real AHK logo that joedf used

I suggest you split this to a new thread discussing the design(s) so more people will see it and makes it easier to follow (up).

Joedf: the obvious thing that might be missing most from your design is a tagline / short intro to what AHK is, blackholymans "The awesome beginner-friendly, scripting language for Windows." And the search might be too big or perhaps make the search a button like the others you have.

BlackHolyman that is EXACTLY what i had in mind. I seriously cant think of how i would have done differently. On the otherhand i cannot dismiss the pure sexieness of JoeDF example.
JoeDF there is a bit of visual focus on the search. that isnt a bad thing. In fact they are both so different and dead on for what we need which is a clean straight forward layout I am torn
I also like that JoeDF links to the downloads page itself instead of the default installer
