hahaha
I have added in the google cse search.
Oh well, i mean we could just use it a search page? I dont know, I just wanted to keep the absolute minimum from our current ahkscript homepage.
And, maybe just rework the other design a little?

Edit: different searchbar

I think we might want to take a page from this community http://emberjs.com/community/ not literally a page but the idea of starting a consortium of local groups using a tool like meetup or something
post group videos on our page welcoming people to the community

Why using a MAC keyboard as background image for a windows-only tool? (or isn't this a command-key in the lower right corner ...)

Perhaps a similar photo but instead of a Mac keyboard, a Surface Book keyboard.

Blackholyman's design is impressive - modern, plenty of information, but without information overload. However, I can't say I like the background picture, and the page is bound to load and perform a bit slower than joedf's for some visitors.
guestt wrote:Joedf: the obvious thing that might be missing most from your design is a tagline / short intro to what AHK is, blackholymans "The awesome beginner-friendly, scripting language for Windows."
I agree.
nnnik wrote:I mean the way the website is presented shows that you assume that the user knows what Autohotkey is.
However that might not be the case and he is at a loss as what he should click.
A get started link might fix that.
I think that if a visitor doesn't know what AutoHotkey is, s/he probably doesn't want to "get started" yet.

Hahhaa  such a comedian :D

I imagine we could simply play around with Blackholyman's design. It is simply more descriptive and more complete than my design. I have to admit that my goal was to aim for a simplistic/minimalistic design yet pleasing to the eye. Looks like I have achieved that, but I realise now it's not exactly what we need. :? :P

When I first arrived on the auto-hotkey homepage a few months back, I understood immediately what it was about from the exemples, so I think you should keep them.

What about just making the web address go straight to the forums... That's what most people visit the site for anyway. You can create your sticky posts and whatever you want to get the new users started, and add more helpful links in the menu. Then you don't have to worry about the site design.

That is just a suggestion. I'm not saying it's the best one, but it sounds great the more I think about it.

That would not be friendly to visitors who are not already familiar with AutoHotkey; who may not be expecting to find a forum, and may not know that AutoHotkey is more than just a forum. Obviously we're not "worrying about the site design" for users who are coming here just for the forums; they can just open the forums directly. It is for everyone else.

Also I think that 90% of the users ending up at Autohotkey.com will have a slight idea of what AutoHotkey is.
I don't ever type some random words in some random combinations into google. Do you do that?
They don't mainly end up here by accident and are completely unaware of what autohotkey is yet are willing to inform themselves.

When you visit this site for the first time you probably heard of friends or read about it somewhere.
Depending on the level of information a person has they might want to get started immediately.
Therefore my suggestion to increase the visual focus on the get started link.

@nnnik

just saying as a single person that I knew nothing about autohotkey before comming here from a google search the very first time and I only needed a fully working tool and i did find one that worked mostly :p

So i'm not sure 90% know about what autohotkey is before comming here but i'm also not saying that its wrong just saying keep it simple but have info there without pointing to much at one thing

It's only a minor suggestion not really a necessity.
