Explorer and other Windows File Managers are extremely slow when
you have thousands of files to delete in a folder. For example,
I recently discovered 236,378 small old files in the Windows folder
C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Microsoft\Crypto\RSA\MachineKeys
Every attempt I made to delete all the files in that folder using "Explorer"
and a couple other file managers resulted in those utilities becoming
unresponsive. Finally I found a free program that could handle the
deletion of thousands of files. It's called "Fast Folder Eraser Pro"
by a company called "NoVirusThanks". Here is URL for the download:
One caution though, after deleting all the files in the folder, it also deleted
the folder as well. The program does allow you to exclude files by extension,
so you could add a bogus extension to one of the files you want to delete,
then add that extension to the exclude list.
