In comparison, a WordPress blog page with lots of avatars and text and other images only oscillates between 0 and 6%.
This page in reply mode with all the animated emoticons on the side takes it to 35-55%.

The computer is what I have in house. HP Vectra VL420: Pentium 4 Willamette 1800MHz, 576MB SDRAM, GeForce FX5700. Browser Pale Moon 25.8.1 on Windows XP-SP3.
Some people are poor.
Others just don't know what to do with all that computing power so they devise new ways to complicate the simplest of things, just because they can.

Well, it's just a report from some user - feel free to disregard it.

I have NoScript, Ghostery, RequestPolicy, QuickJava, YARIP, Greasemonkey all up and running.
In addition, Java is not installed, Flash is disabled, everything Google (including YouTube) is disabled through the HOSTS file.

Could be some javascript looping, could be anything - haven't analyzed the source code for the homepage, I'm about to leave home (with a heavy headache).

You might consider checking your PC for viruses.

Considering I'm the one who used to clean up my friends' computers when they got infected I think I'd know if my machine(s) had such problems. And I can guarantee you they're all clean.

However, it just occured to me to fire up QtWeb 3.8.5 and open AHK homepage. CPU stays on 0% and slightly up on mouse movement.
So you'd say there's either something with Pale Moon and/or its add-ons or QtWeb just ignores whatever makes Pale Moon go crazy.
But IE8 can't even open that page! And there's no firewall to block it.

Pale Moon's the main browser, for many reasons. And I'll have to deal with it.
Y'all have to think hard if AHK is meant only for the rich or for the whole world.

Last WinXP Version (https://downloads.vivaldi.com/stable/Vi ... 435.46.exe)

Btw latest Pale Moon version for WinXP is 26.5.0

so feel free to debug the problem and fix it, and i'm sure joedf will accept your patch. the homepage is now open source. find it, improve it, fix it.

but you'd rather just complain and expect that work done for you? to accomodate the 0.001% of people who still have a Pentium4 on WinXP and using PaleMoon (wtf is that) Web Browser? are you joking?

@ jNizM:
Vivaldi would require too many resources that this computer cannot provide. I've been there some time ago, downloaded whatever version was current at the time but never tested it. Right now free space on this machine is extremely scarce so no installations can be performed.

I know about the 26 line of Pale Moon, tried one of them and it felt heavier than 25.8.1 on this machine even with no add-ons so I decided to stick with this one for as long as possible. Not to mention there would be problems with older add-ons that might not play nice with the Goanna engine and recent changes.

@guest3456:
You don't know what Pale Moon is? Are you joking?
There's people still running Pentium II or III with Windows 95 or 98 and would like to have easy access to some web pages such as AHK. My main machine is a 667MHz Pentium III and still haven't tried to open AHK homepage on it, in Firefox 9.0 (ever heard of Firefox? it's a browser).
Why don't you pay for a state-of-the-art computer for me, so I can be "up-to-date" and stop whining?

I own an old laptop too. The first I did was move to a light Linux Distro like LXLE (more here DistroWatch.com)
And I'm not a linux expert or fulltime user.

Pro:
- it's lightwight and fast on old computers
- enough for surfing
- no windows typical slowdown after using it for month without reinstall

Con:
- no windows programs
- no autohotkey

All depends on your needs.

so you completely ignored my main point: fix the website and submit the patch, and joedf will accept it. no one is intentionally breaking the website for people with old machines. its just that no one cares enough to debug it since you are the 0.0001% of people who will ever visit it. time is money. if you dont have money, donate your time, and fix the page, and then all will be well

@ jNizM:
I truly appreciate you trying to help. But this is not about me, it's about who-knows-how-many people out there that may have similar difficulties. It's a homepage, not an essay on quantum physics. The useful information in there would fit in 50 words and five links - the rest is overhead that just cuts off access to a bunch of people that use "unsupported" browsers and/or operating systems.
As a child, living in this shitty country of mine, I've learn a human principle: "don't do to others what you wouldn't want done to you". Maybe some people at the higher quarters shoudl reflect upon this principle.

This should be enough.I only wanted to provide some feedback and it all got to deeper issues.
Thank you for your help.

I understand the new homepage is much heavier than the old one... If there is a bug or something, I would be glad to hear about it :)
You might want to consider using this instead (optimized, minimalistic page) https://autohotkey.com/search

Edit: the downloads page will not be changed. That is primarily managed by Lexikos. Also, there is no reason to change it.
That said, I suggest arguments stop here. I do not wish to be forced to lock this topic.

Nice work! The new home page looks great!

At first when seeing the page, I didn't see a link to the forums. I later realised it was there but had a transparent background and therefore was less obvious than it used to be... Perhaps it's a combination of that and the busy background.

I can see why you wouldn't want it overpowering the visitor but I only imagine most users will look at the front page maybe once or twice when they get AHK... So you might want to make that button a little more visible somehow. Don't ask me how though. I'm not a designer xD

The download button I could see completely fine though and all the other bits and bobs look really great! Nice work!

I know this have been asked before but could we have a download/link for the SciTE4AutoHotkey Editor bundled with the installer or make it a download button on the side or something? i mean you can see that in the picture he is editing a ahk script in SciTE4AutoHotkey

The contrast seems reasonable right now... If too many think it's not visible enough... it could be coloured blue to contrast from the green of the download button.
I don't know if we are supposed to promote an editor over another...

May I propose to add back the search field to the main page?
