When I hit the "new topic" button, the forum shows the form and immediately auto-submits, causing an error

23 Feb 2023, 16:16

Hi,
I noticed that when I hit the New Topic button, this is what I see:

Everything works fine, but the error appears (kind of looks unprofessional).
Is this meant to happen? :?:

Doesn't happen for me... Did you refresh the page?
I will try again later on my laptop.

I think this only happens for new users (orange-yellow usernames). Afaik, this has been reported before, and I could confirm it with my new user test account (greg_test). Can try again later.

Edit: Can confirm. This is what I see with my test account (with 0 posts), simply after using the 'New Topic' button, and doing nothing else - I never tried submitting:

Happens also in other forums, not only 'Ask for Help'.

Something else I noticed with the test account. In [V1] Ask for Help (incl. v1 Gaming subforum), I see the gif which explains how to use code tags.
In Ask for Help (now v2), this gif won't show. In v2 Gaming neither.

No problem ;) , but it was mainly meant as a datapoint for joedf.
Let us know, if you still see this with 10+ posts.

Edit: I have removed the green checkmark from this topic, since it's not fixed yet.

Thanks, I think under 20 posts there are still some account restrictions enabled - it might have to do with those.

@gregster Oh, ok.
I'll check once I'm at 21 posts (not 20, just in case that's counted as "under 20").

Thank you. In that case, I have no idea. I can only reproduce it with my test account. Perhaps joedf will find something in the code.

Hmm.. Weird I can only reproduce it with my test account as well... Looking it up suggests issues related to cookies or the phpbb cache... but I'm not sure if that actually makes sense in our case... permissions?
or a rogue invalid http request is sent somehow...?

Well anyway, this is less critical for now...

Exactly!
I'll look and report back if the error disappears at some point.

@joedf
I know this is too late,

Isn't it because the forum somehow submit the thread before the user even filling it up? Like, empty subject?

@Ben G
So i remember when i was a new user
I use New Topic button, but for some reason, before i do anything on the page, its like submitting it self(i said this because the flickering page, like trying to submit, but the page brings you back. Not sure what this called)
But after a couple posts, i dont get the issue again

@off Hmmm.. could be a bug with Phpbb or at least our instance of it... :think:
Thanks for the input! :+1:
Will likely be useful for it to be noted where for when it's looked at later on.

Though since this is low prio, I likely wont look into this anytime soon. :/
