styles reference guide/Docs/inline code/urls

10 Jan 2017, 22:45

I think it would be a really good idea, that, when you are at the editing stage, where all the smilies appear, there be a link to a reference guide.

Especially for complex styles like Docs.

The guide would just have example text and images of the what they look like, before and after.

I struggled for ages to find out how to do inline code (I didn't know it was called inline code and I didn't notice the 'c' option probably because it was so small), and I only found it in the end, by looking through the forums archive, someone happened to mention it, and then I looked up 'do inline code', and someone said how to do it.
(And when I looked at the outerHTML on a page that did inline code, it did not say [ c ] and [ /c ] of course.) (I'd be using the reference guide now to find out how to do literal [ c ] and [ /c ].)

[inline code mentioned]
Code colours - AutoHotkey Community
https://autohotkey.com/boards/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=7774

[inline code mentioned]
Escaping command line parameters to AHK - AutoHotkey Community
https://autohotkey.com/boards/viewtopic.php?t=4391

Thanks so much for reading.

You mean a link to something like this?
https://autohotkey.com/boards/faq.php?mode=bbcode

I don't think our custom bbcode is in there... however this is a good idea.
That said, all the "instructions" are shown as "text-tips" when hovering the button with the mouse.

Haha when I asked I thought there might already be one!
Couldn't find it! I see now that it's the question mark button on the right, that I never noticed!
[EDIT: When zoomed in, or when the window is not maximised, you may lose some of the toolbar buttons such as the Frequently Asked Questions button (its icon is a question mark inside a circle).]
[EDIT: When editing a post you can access the tags guide by clicking on ''BBCode is'.]

Btw thanks for the link, I'll try and test some newfound knowledge:

Without tags MSDN urls always get messed up, so the bottom one will try it with tags:

Windows Data Types (Windows)
https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/librar ... s.85).aspx

Windows Data Types (Windows)
https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/librar ... s.85).aspx

I'll mention the link amongst other things like post searching tips when I do my AHK tutorial pages in the next few months.

Cheers!

[EDIT: Yes! It worked.]

I once started a replacement page for https://autohotkey.com/boards/faq.php?mode=bbcode, also including custom bbcode. But I gave it up due to several reasons

Anyway it's still available on: https://github.com/hoppfrosch/AHKScript_BBCodeGuide. This hosted html-page was supposed to be a replacement for the existing phpbb-documentation (and it actually was the replacement on our old ahksccript.org forum). This might be a base for documenting further customisations. If there is interest, I can put it into our ahkscript-github organization.
