Domain Redirection Login Issues

12 Mar 2014, 12:11

I noticed this a few times in the past few weeks (after realizing the documentation could be visited on .org .info .com .net versions of this site independently, however login is somewhat broken by the same thing.

When giving out links to AutoHotkey on AHKScript, I generally prefer to use AHKScript.org (it sounds more professional). However, I like to view my documentation through AHKScript.info. My forum activity would generally be through AHKScript.info as well, however this is currently not possible.

The steps I took:
If logged into AHKScript.org, then going to AHKScript.info, you're logged out.
After logging in, the redirection transfers you to ahkscript.org.
When you return to AHKScript.info, you're still logged out since the login is only attributed to AHKScript.org.

Please help me figure this out. It's a personal preference, that's true, but keeping logins confined to one website or another - and links to the same - bookmarks may not allow me to be "logged in" when viewing saved links to AHKScript.info .com or .net

its simply a matter of cookie domain. if the cookie has you logged in .org it cant also be .info tho you could have one of each in theory.
I purchased the others just to protect them. if the redirects worked properly you could only use .org at all
Your Idea for using the .info sounds logical but currently cant be supported as things stand today. I would love to tell you that i will add this to the crap pile of things i need to do to this site but this seems rather low priority compared to things like proper mobile support and a proper spam filter and mod tools to deal with what gets thru. and by the time i get time i will have most likely forgotten.

That said i am not opposed to trying to figure out how to accommodate this request. so perhaps bring it up every 3-4 months and see if my time and availability has changed. 8-) any of the other site admins might choose to try and work it out as well.
