forum listings not updated

01 Oct 2018, 16:57

- I logged in this morning (Monday 1st) and was surprised to see that 'New posts' was empty.
- I also noticed that the post count and last poster for some existing threads were out-of-date, and in fact still are e.g. see:
AutoHotkey v2 Development - AutoHotkey Community
https://autohotkey.com/boards/viewforum.php?f=37
- Note: the view count appears to be updating correctly.
- I have also been curious whether (temporarily) new threads were either being created but not being displayed, or were not being created. (New threads are appearing now.) Thanks.

- Also, I use this to check for updates to posts, but I know at least one has not been updated. 'Will AutoHotkey v2 Syntax Be More Confusing For Newbies?' (Although this thread, 'forum listings not updated', does appear.)
AutoHotkey Community - Search
https://autohotkey.com/boards/search.ph ... mit=Search

- Affected posts would lie in this range:
- I know that this post was fine:
https://autohotkey.com/boards/viewtopic.php?p=241468
- And the post number for this post is:
https://autohotkey.com/boards/viewtopic.php?p=241640

I posted here again. Everything seems fine, e.g. last poster, last post time, except that the post count appears to be incorrect (it says 4, there are 11).
Will AutoHotkey v2 Syntax Be More Confusing For Newbies? - AutoHotkey Community
https://autohotkey.com/boards/viewtopic ... 37&t=56592

So, AFAIK, the problems that occurred could be fixed by updating the post count/last poster/last post time details, for all threads with posts in the range I mentioned above.

Forum is very buggy and has been for the past few days. New replies are disappearing.

I couldn't access iseahound's latest post here:
Operators vs Methods - AutoHotkey Community
https://autohotkey.com/boards/viewtopic ... ead#unread
https://autohotkey.com/boards/viewtopic ... 4&start=20
https://autohotkey.com/boards/viewtopic ... 86#p242286
https://autohotkey.com/boards/viewtopic.php?p=242286

It would be the 21st post, necessitating a new page.
(I know that there are 20 posts because there are 20 matches when you search for 'Posts:'/'Joined:' on the page.)

I fixed this topic by creating a copy of it.
The old one is still broken though.
I keep it around to showcase the bug.
Please reply to the new topic only.

This is actually quite appreciated

This was database corruption and I had to recreate the entire forum. The alternative was to restore a week old back up and loose a week worth of posts.

There appear to be 2 versions of this thread:

Will AutoHotkey v2 Syntax Be More Confusing For Newbies? - AutoHotkey Community

The latter states it has 18 posts, but has at least 20 (you can search for 'joined:').

It is not the first time that this thread causes problems - it is somehow messed up. Admins created copies as a workaround and the one with the lesser posts was moved in May to check it (?) and then recently moved back to the visible forum, I think by @joedf on June 26 - but I don't know if there has been any progress on identifying the problem and I am not sure why this original (?) thread was moved back...

Perhaps there are 2 ways of enumerating the post count for a thread, and for some reason, 1 way is giving the wrong count.

No.
One topic broke so I cloned it and moved the broken one for investigation. Then joedf moved the old one back.

- What are you referring to when you say 'No'? If to me, (a) you don't know what the problem is yet, (b) my words are vague enough to be true anyhow (enum method 1: states a count of 18, enum method 2: displays 20), I'm just pointing out a possible place to look, (c) I was right about the 'too many characters in a post' Cloudflare error problem.
- Anyhow, Tigerlily tried to post to the 'broken' thread, so perhaps you could move that post to the working thread.

@jeeswg there is only one method for counting.
However there is one method for counting and another method for actually acquiring the posts content which also happens to result in a post count.
They can only differ if something in the database went wrong. The database itself is probably programmed correctly - but some data might have gotten corrupted due to a random reason.
Said database and how phpBB interacts with it is hidden behind severl layers of abstraction that I'm not gonna look into, joedf isn't going to look at it either I think and I doubt tank would spent his time looking too much at it.
Finding out what went wrong sounds annoying. Instead Im going to delete the old post since nobod plans on fixing it.

@joedf you moved a thread from the staff forum that was supposed to stay there :P

Can't we just delete it?
