Ragnar's one is more simple and simplicity wins in the long run.

Updated but with an homage to the lone H:
Re: New icons for v2
Also, keep this in mind:
The design also needs to be scalable to the smaller icon sizes like 16x16.
lexikos wrote: ↑08 May 2018, 04:04For a fair comparison of file size, you should include only the sizes that are present in AutoHotkey.exe. It would be ridiculous to increase the size of each AutoHotkey executable by 20% just to have big "icons" (that are perhaps too big to be called such, except on very high DPI screens), especially given that they're practically monochrome.

Re: New icons for v2
While I understand the want to revamp the design, I also don't want to try and fix what isn't broke. I think slightly updating the current style and making it suitable for higher DPI environments is entirely fair
This is my attempt at making a vector-based recreation of the main icon, with the primary difference being the slightly slanted tips of the "H" to be more in line with the direction of the .ahk icon
This is at 256 resolution. I created an ico file with this plus the existing scales of 16, 32 and 48, so I could get a fair shake at how space-hungry the large icon would be. When I replaced the icon group of a 64-bit v2 exe using Resource Hacker, it actually ended up being smaller than the original! It wasn't by much, but enough to make me assume that vector-based icons are much friendlier to this potential revamp than I expected.

@Repiteo I like it, but I feel the slant's of the top/bottom of the vertical lines should be mirrored so they go the same way as the horizontal line, a quick ms paint edit that way looks better (for me).
Edit: and you need S and red H as well of course for the full set.

Re: New icons for v2
the blown up icon looks, but the shrunken down version u can barely tell apart from the v1 icon. otherwise, great job

Aight, i wanna participate.
There are plenty lush-green icons already (uTorrent, Evernote, Spotify, Skype, etc), so slight change of tint would help AHK to stand out a bit.
Mushy edges are kept for H, but less noticeable. Just like v2 still is a scripting language, but it's more strict and accurate.
You can even keep only 48px versions and save up to 20Kb!

Re: New icons for v2
@swagfag I could certainly try versions that are more distinct, but the primary intent was to keep it the same, just in a scalable format suitable for all dpi environments. I might play around with that alternate slanted-end idea…
⸻
With that said, I really like what @mcl is going for. Changing the H into a ⏸ seems so obvious in hindsight! I can also get behind a badges instead of an icon recolor for when the app is suspended (there's a system for badges which doesn't involve a seperate icon, because it can be disabled it'd probably be best to keep it an icon)
I still want to push for higher DPI versions of whatever the v2 icons end up being, so I'd love to see 256px versions of at least the normal & document versions

Re: New icons for v2
@Repiteo Nice looking icon and small size, but very similar to the v1.1 icon. Many v1 users might move to v2 slowly and use both during a long transition period. A very similar icon makes it hard for them to spot which tray area script uses which AHK version.
@mcl I think yours are the best so far. Similar yet different enough to easily distinguish from the v1 icons. I personally like that your document icon also has green tint compared to v1 blue. But perhaps others will prefer more similarity so it would be nice to see a variant of your document icon with the new bolder H and the old blue color theme.
The || symbol for Paused is elegant! But I dislike the red dot for Suspended because that is a symbol for recording. Using red for Suspended also breaks with the v1.1 style, which used red for Paused. How about a green bold S for Suspended with the same font and size as H?

Well, square is a symbol for stop, how 'bout that?neogna2 wrote:But I dislike the red dot for Suspended because that is a symbol for recording. But you're right. Having pause symbol already broke the style continuity. Using 'S' seems like a solution until you need “suspended and paused” state.
I have a reason for that change, though. As one wise man said: “hotkeys are AutoHotkey's reason for being”, so suspended state should be more conspicuous, because it disables all hotkeys/hotstrings, whereas pause affects only single thread.
Here's another approach − rounded edges are back for main icon, suspended state is noticeable even without red border (colorblindness is a thing), and document icon has been slimmed down and styled closer to v1.

Re: New icons for v2
Like it!
Sounds plausible to my ears though I don't use Pause or Suspend much and don't know if there was some other reason for going with red for Pause in v1. Maybe make both versions and let Lexikos make the pick on what to use red for? If v2 will have new icons at all that is.
Re: New icons for v2
Pause should be more conspicuous because it actually stops script execution and has an immediate effect. Suspend has no effect on what is currently happening, only future presses of hotkeys. Not all scripts even have hotkeys.
Re: New icons for v2
@neogna2 I somehow didn't even consider that, distinct visuals for different versions will absolutely be important. To that end, I'm all-in on supporting mcl's direction, especially after seeing the new high-dpi & colorblind friendly icons.
@mcl Looking through the icons in Gimp, the only thing I'd be wary of is making sure the higher pixel versions are centered. I understand having a slight offset for the 16px version because of the 15x15 square, but the higher pixel versions should try to be as centered as possible. They can be weighted towards the bottom left corner when the square has an odd-numbered width/height, but that should be a single-pixel offset from an otherwise center-oriented layout.
