Customizing mouse button for Illustrator CC 2017

12 Dec 2017, 12:53

Hi all,

I've been using AutoHotKey to customize one of the thumb buttons on my mouse, and I love it. It's similar to what Windows apparently calls ClickLock: click once, drag and move objects around exactly like you've held down the left mouse button, and then click again to exit that mode. I spend most of my day in Illustrator, and I was starting to get a lot of shoulder pain (go figure) with all the holding down, so this was the perfect solution for me.

My company's IT group just upgraded me to Illustrator CC 2017, and my AutoHotKey script no longer works in Illustrator or Photoshop. I've tried using the Windows settings for my mouse to make the same change, but Illustrator seems to ignore the thumb button customization there, as well.

My mouse is old, so maybe the solution is a new mouse that's Adobe application-friendly. Has anyone else come across the same or similar issues trying to configure mouse buttons for Illustrator or other Adobe products? Any workarounds?

Thank you all so much!
