Surface pen shortcuts work when AutoHotKey runs in foreground but not in background

Hi, I set the hotkeys for one tap, double tap, and long tap to my own customized functions for them except the customized functions only work with AutoHotKey running in the foreground with the console but stops once I have it in the background any help would be appreciated
