Script alert when you have a response in a live chat

is there a script that will sound alert if you have a response in a chat window that is on a different tab in the background? Im often on a software help live chat and the customer service staff with close the chat if you dont reply in 3 mins but I often miss there reply whilst working away? Ive asked them and they dont have anything built into there web chat function to alert the user.
