Interface with Android Apps?

Sorry for asking here but I don't know what terms to Google so I have to start somewhere.

I saw the announcement on Facebook for using AHK to automate Android apps. Is it possible to control ahk scripts, or more likely scripts compile to exe, from an Android app? Or... can an Android app read and write an file? As in sharing an ini file between an AHK script and an Android app.

I don't have any experience with Android, I'm asking now because I know I'm going to get hit with this question later tonight.
