How do I Use The interface ?

This is such a great program ... but what do all of the icons mean and how do they work on the user interface. I have used the Record A Macro .. but again this is minimised to a tool bar with a dozen icons. It is obvious what some are but not all of them .. example .. what is the red round circle with the + sign in it.
