Sadly, uBlock Origin is also detected. They seem to have this wrapped up. I was using Adblock Plus. Has anyone had success in blocking the ludicrous and annoying ad-crap on YouTube since this policy was rolled out? Need to find a way around this, Google are getting worse and worse, so would be good to get a solid way to eradicate the sludge they keep trying to force on us!
How about if we can at least skip the ones we know by heart from seeing them a billion times? Would that be fair, or??
Brave works for me. No need for uBlock or anything else. I made a fairly interesting discovery last week. Before I saw the further notes here, I thought that Brave might be the answer, so on a laptop that I use, I installed Brave last week and indeed, no ads. I then logged into my google account so that I can see my subscriptions etc (from the YouTube page only, by selecting login from the YouTube page), and again, no ads! However, when I got back home, I went to my main PC, and thought I'd go full hog, so after installing Brave, it prompts you if you would like to migrate your profile from Chrome, so I thought I'd give that a shot and bam, full-ad-nightmare!! This weekend, I'll do a full Windows refresh on my system from the Settings > Update > Recovery > Reset (it needs a cleanout anyway) and then going to install Brave and try just doing the login on the YouTube page. Fingers crossed, this is going to be a workable solution longterm.

Apart from this, on another system, I am still using Chrome, and I've settled on @garry's solution above with the TamperMonkey script which is great! https://github.com/TheRealJoelmatic/RemoveAdblockThing . It's not 100% perfect, as you get these 1 second blips whenever an ad tries to start before TamperMonkey does it's magic and automatically expells it, but you don't need to do anything, the video just continues to play and a 1 second blip every 5 to 10 minutes is not a nuisance at all! Nice thing about this is that you can continue to use Chrome if that is your preference.
