I found this listed, but I see no way to download it and use it, maybe it is ancient, but is there a newer version? I've googled around but can't find anything. Hopefully there is a github project for this, or maybe this has been superseded by a newer/better tool?

It's part of the Scite4AHK editor - you can find its button in the Scite4AHK toolbar:

It's very simplistic but for creating a quick GUI it can be a good start. I have used this one a few times. Not sure, if it also runs standalone...

Edit: ah, I see, the link implies that there is (or was) also a standalone version by rajat. I have never used that one - and I don't think that I have seen updates for this in recent years. You shouldn't follow the autohotkey.net link, btw - that domain is not anymore in the possession of the AHK Foundation and might contain whatever.

Here in the first post is a working link to a mediafire archive with version 4.0, but it seems that this is an ancient script (that version 4.0 is from at least 2010): https://autohotkey.com/board/topic/738-smartgui-creator/
It looks like the version included with Scite4AHK is more advanced (also supporting Unicode).

Hi guys.

For what it's worth I'm in the process of uploading some of my mostly-working scripts to my new GitLab account after deleting the GitHub one due to unacceptable forced 2FA requirement.

I have just finished uploading SmartGUI XP Creator Mod minutes ago.
There is the last known ANSI-compiled 4.3.29.7 version from 2014 which works in Windows® 9x (more precisely 98SE and ME).
There also is an attempt at porting it to Unicode for AHK 1.1, which is pretty buggy and incomplete.
Development stopped sometime in 2016 at v4.4.0.7.

Both versions can be found here.
For the ANSI version check out the main branch. There is the compiled package in releases too.
For the Unicode version check out the unicode-test-ahk1.1 branch. There is no compiled package there (yet?).

Anyone is free to improve on the code if they want. I've been using Linux for the past four years, and as much as WINE allows running Windows applications - AHK included - my old version of WINE still lacks a lot, and further development is impossible in such conditions.
